Gardens Can Redefine Community

Daybreak 2007

A monthly board meeting is not the type of thing that brings happy people together.  Even a block party won’t bring people together in a “long-lasting” and meaningful way.  Why not try something new that promises to bring people together with something that is universal – gardens and food.  The process of garden planning, seed sowing, growing, weeding, picking and distribution requires a lot of face-to-face with your neighbors.  What better way to bring neighbors and your community together and get to know one another?  In England, a woman by the name of Pam Warhurst has figured out a way to not only bring communities together but she and her friends are bringing together a whole movement.
